Efficient Document and Process Management

In the construction industry, projects can be somewhat unique; meaning the procedures for keeping track of processes and documents can vary from one project to the next. This is especially true as companies begin to grow and add new services. However companies can leverage technology to assist in managing these procedures effectively and efficiently while also standardizing how documents and processes are managed.
Take for example Excelerate Energy LP, www.excelerateenergy.com, The Woodlands, Texas. Excelerate, a provider for the LNG (liquefied natural gas) industry, recently implemented a software solution from Penta Technologies, www.penta.com, Brookfield, Wis., to aide in its project and document management processes.
In addition to developing terminals for receiving regasified LNG and transporting it, Excelerate recently added EBLV (energy bridge liquefaction vessel) production to its range of services. In order to accommodate additional operations, Excelerate needed a software solution which would enable the company to consolidate all these processes into one system.
By having all of the documents and process information available from a central location, project managers are able to remotely access the data so they can collaborate on a project even if they are in separate locations.
“With Penta we found an easily accessible central repository for engineering specifications and drawings that facilitates managing the document control process,” says Mickey Watzak, director of projects, Excelerate Energy.
So while project managers still don’t have the ability to know how everything is going to pan out on a specific project before it begins, they at least have access to online tools like PENTA software to help them manage the documents and processes associated with each project. And by using the Web, everyone involved in a project has access to the information at any time and from virtually any location.
