Upgrading Project Management

April 14, 2010

Technology is of the utmost importance when it comes to managing capital projects. Fortunately there is a wide variety of new software applications available designed specifically to help contractors enable BIM (building information modeling) and take advantage of KPIs (key performance indicators).

As one example, capital program and project management software provider e-Builder, www.e-builder.net, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., recently launched e-Builder Enterprise 7.4, the latest update to its SaaS (software-as-a-service) application. According to the company, e-Builder Enterprise 7.4 is one of four upgrades that will be released this year.

The new upgrade contains a number of new features including collaborative BIM model review, which can help speed up the approval process for designs, as well as the ability to automatically sync files with a client’s server. e-Builder Enterprise 7.4 also offers flexible reporting functions, enabling project managers to maintain complete visibility of project KPIs and business processes.

New enhancements have been made to the search functionality as well, with additional categories to improve and filter search results. e-Builder Enterprise 7.4’s data exchange function will leverage the newest standards from the AGC (Associated General Contractors of America), www.agc.org, Arlington, Va., for agcXML, which is the organization’s schema set used for data exchanged throughout the construction process.

Based on feedback from customers in e-Builder’s user base, the company has also added more features to the software to streamline management of processes such as scheduling, budget, and expenses.
