Simplifying Construction Management through Integration

March 24, 2010

As the weather changes and the temperature begins to rise so will the work load for those in the construction industry, which is why now is a better time than ever to prepare for the busy season up ahead. Construction companies that are still working on disparate platforms may find now is a perfect time to look for an integrated package.

Lorneville Mechanical Contractors, www.lmc-ltd.ca, Saint John, N.B., a maintenance services and mechanical field construction provider, recently selected a software solution from Penta Technologies Inc., www.penta.com, Brookfield, Wis., to integrate its payroll, project management, and accounting processes into a single system. Over the past five years Lorneville Mechanical has experienced significant growth and as a result has increased its number of employees, expanded service offerings, and extended its geographical availability.

However the company was managing individual processes on isolated systems without direct access to the rest of Lorneville Mechanical’s construction projects.

“Our rapid growth over the last five years has exposed the need to consolidate operational information currently being managed in non-integrated systems,” says John Warrington, CFO, Lorneville Mechanical. “PENTA will bridge the gap between Lorneville Mechanical’s project managers and the rest of our backoffice operations.”

Warrington says one of the biggest benefits to the use of PENTA was that its Canadian Union Payroll software enabled Lorneville Mechanical to effectively manage its large payroll of employees, an amount which in 2009 totaled 1,600 workers.

For construction companies like Lorneville Mechanical working on multiple projects simultaneously, it’s essential to be able to integrate various processes together so employees can access data on a specific project all from a single source, regardless of their location.
