Analyzing Business Performance

July 13, 2009

ITAC (Industrial TurnAround Corp.) Engineers and Constructors, www.itac.us.com, Chester, Va., provides a range of diverse services, including engineering, design-build and self-perform construction work. When it comes to using software to manage it business, the company requires a system that can cover each phase all from one database.

Technology remains a critical component to how this company operates, and has been something ITAC typically approached via the custom software route. The company recently underwent an evaluation process of software vendors, looking to find a system that eliminated a lot of the redundant work that is often necessary when managing technology.

Jon Loftis, president, ITAC Engineers and Constructors, says one of main criterion during the evaluation process was to find a system that would no longer require the company to build and maintain custom systems outside its financial system.

After an 18-month search, the company selected software from Penta Technologies, www.penta.com, Brookfield, Wis., providing unified management of all the types of work ITAC performs, including fee-based, lump sum, and time and material jobs.

According to PENTA, its integrated management applications will allow ITAC to eliminate duplicate work required in using multiple management systems. The company will also use PENTA Business Analytics, which will allow it to analyze past performance for planning, trend current performance for forecasting, and continually measure performance against key indicators.

The business intelligence aspect of the deployment is one that continues to gain ground in the construction industry. Given current market conditions, the ability to analyze performance and provide benchmarking statistics could prove to be highly valuable to helping companies become more proactive in managing conditions. It's definitely a trend to watch in the construction industry.
