The Power of Mac

Residential builders looking for technology applications to run on Leopard from Apple, www.apple.com, Cupertino, Calif., need to look no further.
IMSI/Design, www.imsidesign.com, Novato, Calif., released TurboCAD Mac v3 in November. With features such as a tape measure tool, expanded file information, import/export functions, and the capability to run on Apple’s Leopard OS X, IMSI/Design began its surge of Mac offerings.
“Macintosh is exploding in popularity, yet there are virtually no AutoCAD-oriented tools for the platform,” says Bob Mayer, COO (chief operating officer), IMSI/Design.
To solve the problem, IMSI/Design recently released an AutoCAD viewing function for both Mac and Windows users. This function allows users to view .DWG files on any computer.
IMSI/Design also announced, from the Macworld Trade Show, the release of its new IDX Renditioner. Using material and lighting control, IDX will render CAD designs into photos. This means builders and designers can show more realistic images to homebuyers.
“Renderings are stunning,” says Mayer. “To go from something that was obviously computer-generated to near-photographic quality so quickly and easily is mind-boggling.”
AEC Software, www.aecsoftware.com, Sterling, Va., recently released enhancements to its FastTrack scheduling software, FastTrack Schedule 9.2, which can run on Mac OS X or Windows.
Some of the new Mac features in this release include project consolidation and easier data exchange with Microsoft Project. This release can also export to iCal for improved scheduling as well as publish to .Mac to easily share project plans and pictures with team members and clients.
