Wheeling, Ill., Sept. 5, 2007 — In late August, technology providers had just eight minutes to illustrate why their solutions were the key to improving business practices. This was the scene as Constructech magazine debuted its first “Technology Speed Dating” program to more than 300 construction professionals.
Technology Speed Dating brings together construction professionals and the technology providers who serve the construction space. A take-off of traditional speed dating, vendors have a short period of time to explain the benefit of their product to the builder or contractor with whom they are paired. Once the time is up, the technology providers move to the next professional, and so on.
“The Constructech speed dating event was the perfect way to, in just a few short minutes, meet new vendors and stay abreast of their latest technology offerings,” said Stephanie Shum Anderson, eBusiness Director, Clark Builders Group. “In many cases, it opened the door for a continued discussion of products and services.”
Constructech magazine introduced this leading-edge concept during its second annual Technology Day conference. Technology Day provides a unique opportunity for builders and contractors to learn how others in the industry are meeting market challenges. With sessions focusing on both the commercial and residential sectors of construction, Technology Day creates an environment of education and networking. The 2007 Technology Day conference was held August 23, at the Westin Chicago North Shore Hotel in Wheeling, Ill.
Constructech designed Technology Speed Dating to simplify the information construction professionals must sift through to seek out the most innovative technology available.
“Quick and to the point, that’s how I describe my Technology Speed Dating experience. You walk away with a significant understanding of what the major construction technology vendors are offering,” said Thad Lutgens, IT director, L.P.R. Construction Co. “Now I can make an informed decision on our in house technology. Ultimately, it’s a great way to streamline your research time.”
After a concise discussion with the technology providers, each construction professional was able to understand the benefits that each vendor provides.
“Technology Speed Dating was a fantastic experience! I met vendors that I might not normally have met and learned about technology advances that I would have otherwise missed out on,” said John Moebes, director of construction, Crate&Barrel. “The conversations were brief and to the point and the presentations were distilled to give the maximum amount of useful information in the shortest amount of time. Definitely the most productive 90 minutes I have spent in a long, long time.”
