Collaborate in the Cloud
August 10, 2012
The construction industry has seen a flurry of acquisition activity as of late, most of which are aimed at combining and advancing BIM (building information modeling) solutions. But some software providers are picking up technology with another clear agenda: to build out a cloud strategy.
Yesterday, Newforma, www.newforma.com, Manchester, N.H., announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Attolist, www.aec-sync.com, the provider of AEC-Sync Web-based construction collaboration software that integrates information for the entire project team including designers, contractors, and owners.
According to Newforma, the addition of AEC-Sync will provide the industry with a greater selection of on-premise and cloud-based technologies to better manage project delivery. Newforma plans to offer the AEC-Sync Web-based collaboration software as part of the Newforma Project Information Management Solution under the new name of Newforma Project Cloud.
For Newforma, the addition of this software will allow the company to continue to build out its cloud strategy, providing architects, engineers, contractors, and owners with more options for project delivery.
For the construction industry, a collaboration portal that connects all team members can be an appealing option to share and manage critical project documentation.
Ian Howell, CEO, Newforma, said in a statement the AEC-Sync Web-based solution complements Newforma’s existing enterprise products and aligns with its strategy to offer customers on-premise and cloud-based solutions.
Scott Baldermann, president and founder of Attolist, adds with the sale of assets to Newforma, the company will be able to advance the software and pursue a vision of improving project delivery by hosting projects in the cloud and providing a Web-based workflow. The transaction is expected to close this month.
As more construction companies begin to look at the cloud as an option for technology deployment, software providers are coming to market with solutions to accommodate different project delivery methods. In this case, the combination of solutions from Attolist and Newforma will provide the industry with more options for project information management going forward.
