Facilities Managers Go Mobile
August 03, 2012
Like many positions in the architecture, engineering, construction, and owner space, facilities managers are frequently on the move—requiring software and technology solutions to be mobile as well. In the past, many platforms have been accessible via a desktop computer, but now application providers are coming to market more frequently with browser-based mobile solutions.
This week, FM:Systems, www.fmsystems.com, Raleigh, N.C., announced a partnership with AMS CAD + CAFM Solutions, www.amscad.com, Fairfield, N.J., to provide enhancements to FM:Mobile for facility managers.
The solution is a browser-based application that allows mobile access to the FM:Interact Workplace Management Suite, which is software for management of space, occupancy, maintenance, leases, and property, allowing facilities professionals to improve customer service, reduce costs, and increase productivity across the organization.
The enhancements will include a new user interface for the Apple iPad and iPhone devices. Capabilities include being able to create and edit work orders, view drawings, and run reports. The new release will be available later this year as a module for the suite.
As Gary Hollis, vice president of development, FM:Systems, says, the work of facilities professionals isn’t done from behind a desk, which is why it is important for the company to continue to add more functionality to FM:Mobile.
As a certified business partner of FM:Systems, AMS CAD + CAFM Solutions provides FM:Systems customers with the technology expertise to implement on large-scale, complex facilities. The company was active in the development of the mobile facility-management software.
On-the-go access to work orders, drawings, and reports can make a facility manager’s job a little bit easier. As the entire architecture, engineering, construction, and owner industry seeks out new ways to bring technology to the field, mobile solutions such as this will provide the platform for quick access to vital data.
