Mapping an IT Plan

March 19, 2010

Finding the right type of technology isn’t always easy and since it’s such a crucial decision, a significant amount of time usually goes into making the right selection. Of course, equally as important as choosing the appropriate technology is the implementation process. This all in itself can be a time-consuming procedure, especially as contractors need to map and standardize processes.

JE Dunn Construction Co., www.jedunn.com, Kansas City, Mo., recently spent a total of 18 months working on the One Dunn initiative, where the company was working to pool together system data from five separate operating companies into a single entity. About six months of the initiative was spent on just analyzing the company’s specific requirements for the process, as well as reviewing and standardizing processes.

Not enough, of course, to make it a good year; certainly not early enough to make a difference in some regions. But as the year ended, housing starts were up, the market was starting to move in a positive direction, and many company executives were starting to breathe again—shallow breathing perhaps, but signs of respiration none the less.
